We’ve all been there. You sit down to "do social media", the cursor blinks, and your mind goes blank. You feel stuck, searching for a spark of inspiration or a brand-new idea that will finally engage your audience.
But here is a secret I share with my clients: You don’t need to reinvent the wheel.
Strategy Over Complexity
Of course, you should always have a strategy and a clear focus to keep you moving towards your marketing goals. However, I often see business owners get caught in the trap of overthinking. They try to design huge, elaborate campaigns that never actually see the light of day because they are simply too time-consuming to execute.
If you are in a position to hire a marketing person or outsource to an expert like me, that’s excellent—it allows you to stay entirely focused on your core business. But if you are managing it yourself, please do not overcomplicate it. Often, when you are working deep inside your business, you become "blind" to the obvious solutions sitting right in front of you. You are looking for something new, when you should be looking at what you have already built.
The 17-Week Content Goldmine
I recently met with a client who felt she had nothing fresh to say. We looked at her website together and found 17 detailed case studies.
That is 17 weeks of high-quality, trust-building content without even breaking a sweat.
Each case study can be broken down into:
The initial problem a customer faced.
The specific solution provided.
The final result or testimonial.
By repurposing what you already have, you aren’t "repeating" yourself; you are ensuring that your expertise reaches the people who might have missed it the first time.
The "Daily Snap" Habit
If you are struggling to find relatable stories, the answer is usually sitting in your camera roll. I advise my clients to take a photo of something interesting every day they are at work. It doesn’t have to be a professional masterpiece; it just needs to be authentic.
Pop two hours in your diary once a month to look back through those photos. I guarantee that two or three will spark an idea for a relatable story for your website blog or social media.
Why This Works
Marketing shouldn't feel like a chore that requires constant creative reinvention. It should be a sustainable extension of the work you are already doing.
Next time you feel stuck, step away from the "big idea" board. Look at your website, look at your recent projects, and look at your camera roll. The content is already there—you just need to hit publish.
